A HIGH PENNINE GARDEN

A High Pennine Garden

Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, West Yorkshire.

This property, high in the Yorkshire Pennines gave us open scope to create something incredibly different. The location was stunning, with sweeping, elevated views over the surrounding hills.

With challenging climactic conditions a well considered design was key to this scheme.

The back of the property featured  a large  terrace  in pale grey porcelain giving way to a planted slope which linked this main area to a large lawn.

We decided to feature several raised plant areas (with cedar screens) to help cut down the strong winds. Theses all featured plants with a strong architectural flavour, and we felt the  need to give all year round colour, leave texture and some with fragrance.

The client had  collected several sculptural pieces  on his travels. (Buddha heads etc) which we used to give interest.

The scheme also featured a large hot tub, elevated using decked steps. This provided panoramic views of the rest of the estate and the hills beyond.

We have designed in a large metal framed pergola which had useful adjustable roof and sides, giving the chance to sit outside even during inclement weather.

All in all the landscape provided a highly usable outside space for the client and young family.
